Norah Jones ( Brooklyn , March 30 of 1979 ) is a pianist , singer and songwriter U.S. . Born Geetali Norah Jones Shankar , officially changed its name to sixteen.
Norah was born in the city of New York , daughter of the player sitar Indian Ravi Shankar , having lived his childhood with his mother, Sue Jones, who moved to Dallas , Texas , when Norah was four. Jones attended the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and the University of North Texas, where he majored in jazz piano. In 1999 , after two years in the program, Norah moved to New York, where he plays with his band Wax Poetic .
Norah is an award-winning musician ( multi- Grammy Award ) whose career was boosted in 2002 with her debut album Come Away With Me , an album of jazz piano with a touch of soul / folk , who obtained a great success selling twenty-three million of copies worldwide. Norah Jones won eight awards at the Grammy Awards in 2003 including “Best New Artist.” His album Feels Like Home released on February 9th of 2004 , was more influenced by music country instead of repeating the smooth style of Come Away With Me . With a week of release, Feels Like Home had sold one million copies. That same year, the magazine TIME listed Jones among the “most influential people of 2004.” Jones received three awards at the Grammy Awards of 2005, two for “Record of the Year” by her collaboration with Ray Charles on the song Here We Go Again .
