M. Ward (*1974 in Ventura County, California; actually Matt Ward) is an American guitarist and singersongwriter, in Portland, Oregon lives. His music is the genre of Alternative Country attributed.
M. Ward sees itself primarily as a guitarist. His voice is for him only a “guide” to the guitar dar. On his albums can be heard often purely instrumental pieces. On transistor radio that include such diverse interpretations of songs like You Still Believe In Me (Beach Boys) and the Well-Tempered Clavier JS Bach. The folk songs are influenced by styles such as Ward’s blues, rock and jazz, which represents the number of musical examples of the artist. Certainly the intention is the lo-fi sound of his albums, which can give the impression that Ward’s music is already several decades old.
First, M. Ward was one of California’s three-member band Rodriguez, who released an album by Grandaddy singer Jason Lytle, was produced. After the dissolution of Rodriguez Ward began his solo career, aided by Howe Gelb of Giant Sand . Yellow was inspired by a demo tape, M. Ward, and enabled him to publish his 2000 debut Duet for Guitars # 2 on his Ow Om label. This album was helped by the popularity of yellow to get already in Europe. In Europe also appeared EP Scene from # 12 .
His second album, End of Amnesia , a concept album with the theme of memories and dreams inspired by among others David Lynch’s films, appeared the following year, had moderate success, but like its predecessor, only with the public. Meant a significant increase in its popularity it for Ward, the opening act for the tour of Conor Oberst ( Bright Eyes ) to appear.
